Description:
The Building Inspector will inspect new construction of structures and repair or renovation to existing structures, in compliance with local ordinances, state-adopted building codes, international building codes, and FEMA regulations within special flood areas.

The Building Inspector will inspect new construction of structures and repair or renovation to existing structures, in compliance with local ordinances, state-adopted building codes, international building codes, and FEMA regulations within special flood areas.
Examples of Duties:
- Inspects new construction and repair or renovations to existing construction of building and structures for compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Evaluates construction Plans and materials to be used in construction projects.
- Meets with contractors and homeowners to discuss code requirements when necessary.
- Performs necessary investigative action relative to project installation and structural performances.
- Responds to complaints on construction projects relative to plan discrepancies and other issues. Follows up to ensure that violations are corrected in accordance with codes and regulations.
- Drafts and distributes reports of inspection findings; maintains records of reports and finding.
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Skills Abilities
- Knowledge of construction, engineering, zoning, health, and building codes and regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to write clear inspection reports on the condition of properties.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- 3 years related experience. Relevant experience may include as a contractor, engineer, architect.
- Maintain International Code Council (ICC) certification as an inspector (residential and commercial) in Building, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing.
- Must be physically able to inspect construction sites including walking properties, climbing ladders, and kneeling in various weather conditions.
- Tools used but not limited to motor vehicles, two-way radios, telephone, cell phones, measuring tapes, level rod, flashlight, moisture meter, computer, ipad/tablet , camera, video equipment, stepladder, and extension ladder.
- Must be able to lift up to 25lbs. at a time.
