GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The essential function of the position is to receive, log, and distribute construction plans for plan checking; check and review permit applications and supporting documents for proper form, sufficiency of information, and conformance with legal standards; provide first-line customer service throughout the building permit process.


PRIMARY DUTIES: This list represents the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.

Receives and reviews building applications and Entergy applications from customers; assesses scope of project and relevant permit requirements; educates customers regarding necessary permits and general code compliance of proposed projects.

Routes plans to appropriate staff; logs information into permit system; sets up and scans files including maps, as-builts, construction plans and documents; tracks and monitors plan status; notifies contractors, owners, developers, and engineers of plan status; verifies professional and contractor licensing.

Calculates and verifies valuations and fees; accepts payments; issues receipts; issues permits as authorized.

Maintains records and prepare reports as required. Coordinates responses to public records requests and related reports/records.

Assists in completing permit applications by explaining building permit requirements; assists and
advises the general public in matters relating to building requirements and status of submitted projects.

Logs inspection requests and prepares field files for daily building inspections.

Assists building inspectors in coordinating inspection requests; answers a variety of phone calls and information requests; performs clerical duties for Building Department personnel.

Enters work orders for maintenance of city buildings and facilities.

Obtains quotes and other documentation for purchase orders and check requests; enters requisitions and runs reports in Munis software.
