Lifeguard at Zemurray Pool
The Lifeguard works at Zemurray Pool, ensuring safety of patrons and staff; supplying information
regarding facility maintenance of water quality, providing life safety, communicating and enforcing City
of Hammond Recreation department regulations and promoting good customer service.

Education, Work Experience, & Qualifications:
Education Required: Age 16 or older; High School Graduate preferred.
Certifications:
Current American Red Cross or YMCA Standard First Aid Card; Swim Class Instructors
should possess a current Water Safety Instructor Certificate.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Must be available from 5/19/2025 - 8/31/2025
per week. Hours flexible, as needed. (Seasonal Position, Summer Job)

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist in taking admission fees for public recreational swimming and swimming lessons
- Participating in maintenance of facility including, filtration, chlorination system, cleanliness, sanitation, minor repair and maintenance; cleaning restrooms, emptying
- trash cans and other duties as assigned.
- Ensuring safety of patrons, watching for and preventing and notifying patrons and Head
- Lifeguard of unsafe conditions, accidents or occurrences, administering first aid when required; reports all accidents immediately to Head Lifeguard/Pool Coordinator, and/or
- Recreation Supervisor, Director (chain of command)
- Performs such other duties as assigned by Recreation Administration.
- Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions at aquatics facilities
- Ability to adjust programs as necessary to ensure the safety of the visitors and other staff
- Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions
- Ability to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety
- Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies
- Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services
